Suriyawatta is a private five-bedroom villa perched on a hillock with magnificent views over Weligama on Sri Lanka’s south coast. The villa has an informal feel. It is immersed in tropical gardens and is set on a terraced land looking out to the sea. The house is at the top level with the swimming pool at a level below. A pathway through the gardens leads down to the beach. Suriyawatta is designed along the lines of a traditional southern home with a broad verandah that skirts around and a central courtyard. Interiors are comfortably furnished with large sofas that you can sink into, four-poster beds and planter’s chairs on the verandah for taking in the fabulous sea views.
The villa has five air-conditioned bedrooms. Four of these are in the main pavilion. Two of these bedrooms have draped, king-sized beds. Two other bedrooms have twin beds. The fifth bedroom, in a detached pavilion has twin beds and can be pushed together to make a double. All bedrooms have dedicated bathrooms with rain showers. Although two of these bathrooms also have fitted, natural stone bathtubs.
Meals are served at the 10-seater dining table on the verandah with sea views. Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served here. Discuss your meal preferences with the in-house chef ahead of time. Guests are welcome to accompany him to the local market to purchase vegetables and fresh seafood and even learn Sri Lankan cookery. Guests can also bring their own alcoholic beverages.
Relax on a sun lounge by the swimming pool located in the terraced gardens. Surfing and snorkeling is possible during the season at the Kapparatota beach and Weligama Bay. Other villa facilities include satellite TV, DVD player, board games, Wi-Fi internet and a music system with surround sound. A relaxing massage can be arranged with prior notice. Suriyawatta is staffed with a manager, chef and housekeeping staff that are always at hand to assist guests.
