Colombo Night Cycling

This tour is designed to explore and experience the Commercial capital of Sri Lanka, The Colombo while cycling through the city in the night and learn more about iconic landmarks and the stories hidden behind them.

Itinerary

Tour will begin from Independence Square at about 1730hrs after a brief familiarization session with their bikes and safety procedures. You will be provided with all needed stuff like helmets, safety glasses, and reflector jackets, to ensure safety & comfort.

Your route will be as follows.

Independence Square: The Independence memorial hall which was opened in 1953 is a one of the iconic National monuments in the Independence Square. This shows the architectural influence of the royal palace complex Audience Hall located in Kandy which is the most known Temple of Tooth Relic nowadays.

Race Course: This was opened back in 1893 and used as an air field on temporary basis during World War II. Further, this was converted into the first International Rugby Ground with an attached shopping complex of Sri Lanka.

Victoria Park and the Municipal Building: Victoria Park, build by the British and named after Queen Victoria is the most famous, oldest and the largest park in Colombo. Today it is commonly named as Viharamahadevi Park to honour the mother of King Dutugamunu who ruled the Sri Lanka in the Anurapdhapura era.

Gangaramaya Temple: This is an wide-ranged mix of modern architecture which is redesigned by the famous modern architect Geoffrey Bawa. This temple is considered as a land mark of Colombo and is located in the Beira Lake.

Slave Island: This is a suburb of Colombo which was used to hold the African salves during the Portuguese and Dutch eras of Sri Lanka. You will see some residents traces the African lineage even now.

Dutch Hospital: This was built by Dutch during their ruling time of Sri Lanka back in 1681. Even though it has been used for several purposes in the days, currently it is the home for some of the best and fancy cafes and restaurants in Colombo where you could see the youngsters enjoying the Colombo night life.

Grand Oriental Hotel: A Colonial Building with its roots going back to the 19th Century, converted into a hotel which gives a scenic view of the Galle Face Green and the Colombo Harbour.

Old Colombo Light House: Colombo Light House was also built in the 19th Century and now functioning as a clock tower.

The Prison of the Last King of Ceylon: This is an historical icon located in Colombo city, where the last king of Sri Lanka Sri Vikrama Rajasinghe was prisoned. This is located right opposite of the Bank of Ceylon headquarters.

Galle Face Green: A long stretch of beach used by the Dutch to setup their canons of their fort. The original green was a much larger than what you see today.

After witnessing all these places, you will be back at Independence Square, where you started the journey to end this cycling tour with bunch of beautiful memories.

Notes for your Attention

Ride time may vary due to the traffic conditions on the road and we recommend wearing comfortable shoes as you will be cycling for about 5 hours.
