The Hotel
Taylors Hill is a colonial-period Sri Lanka planters bungalow named after James Taylor who introduced tea production to old Ceylon. An hour from Kandy, it was built by a British planter more than 100 years ago and is distinct from most other plantation bungalows in the hill country in its architecture, imposing size and stone façade. This spacious five-bedroom bungalow has been refurbished, offering luxurious comfort and a cozy ambience, and enjoys a picturesque setting surrounded by mountains The stylish interiors are bright and airy and decorated in vibrant colors, soft furnishings and plush sofas. Taylors Hill is set on manicured lawns edged with colourful flower beds. The room rates at Taylors Hill include a three-course breakfast, afternoon tea and cake, and dinner. Lunch can be included on Full Board basis. A minimum of two nights stay is recommended in order to experience this wonderful holiday retreat. There are five individually-designed bedrooms, all with garden and mountain views. Interiors are stylish and furnished with artistic custom-made beds fitted with mosquito netting, wardrobe and lounge chairs. Rooms are equipped with overhead fans and the ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.
At Taylors Hill Kandy you will find sumptuous cuisine inspired by the culture and history of the surrounding region making it a favourite amongst Kandy hotels. Most food is Asian fresh fusion, using local ingredients where cultures and ingredients are expertly mixed. Sri Lankan food features prominently with traditional up country, Tamil recipes. There’s colonial history attached to this hotel, so there’s room too for a more traditional British flare. No stay is complete without Afternoon Tea, offering a variety of freshly-baked cakes and cookies for your enjoyment.
Service is friendly and very professional, and the facilities are excellent, especially for families. Besides the handsome pool, a tennis court, badminton court and croquet lawn, there’s also a billiard room, television room and games room for children. The hotel organises half-day tuk-tuk tours to the Loolecondera tea plantation and factory. Bicycles are available and the area around the hotel is perfect for short and long walks.
